I was diagnosed with Celiac right before my sophomore year in college when I was already planning on living in the dorms. Here are some of the things I did and some of the things I would have done knowing what I know now 4 years later: -Always keep a larabar in your backpack in case you get stuck on campus or between classes without a place for lunch. -Brown bagging is the best way to go; it can be healthier and helps to avoid cross contamination. You want to stay healthy so you are able to study and make good grades. Also eating healthy (while not always the cool thing to do) will help you avoid the freshman fifteen. -Take your vitamins - my mom always reminds me of this. -Talk with your professors to let them know what is up just in case you do get sick. -Talk with the dining services and *hopefully* they will be accommodating. -Make lots of friends both gluten free and non gluten free. -Attend local support group meetings. -Make friends with people who have gluten free kitchens and will invite you over for dinner; just make sure to help cook and/or clean. -Order food online or have your parents send you gluten free care packages if there is not an accessible grocery store carrying gluten free products. -Eat to live don't live to eat And last but not least (I could come up with many more hints) -Enjoy your college life because you are alive and healthy. You know what makes you sick and what you have to do to avoid it. The gluten free diet may require a little more planning and attention but it is definitely worth it to remain healthy in college.

Keep plenty of Gluten-Free snacks on hand. But make sure at least some of them are healthy! Suggestions are cheese, instant rice, GF cookies, GF chips (espec. Fritos, cheetos and your favorite potato chip). Those "normal looking" chips are great to take to parties, etc. so you look like "one of them"!!!

Hi I would eat lots of fruits and vegtables. Whole grain tortia corn chips with salsa make a great snack GF! Have you tried the corn puff cakes? Yum with cheese or peanut butter or even jam. I would also suggest that you find a health food store near by your new school, a good place to find G F and G F organic foods. Good luck you will be great.
