Still sick
posted by jenn720 1 year ago

I have been Gluten free for 10 months now. I am still suffering. I had an endoscopy and the blood test, I am VERY careful about contamination. I mostly experience the GI upset, (gas bloating chronic diarhhea). Headaches and overall fuzzy state of mind have continued but are not as severe. My intestinal issues are very painful, sometimes affecting my work or plans. I avoid dairy, as I know it can be related. I am truly at a loss. I am wondering if it is possible I was misdiagnosed! Anybody have any words of advice or is experiencing the same thing please reach out to me.

My son had severe belly aches from the ages of 5 to 9. We started a gluten free diet and casein free diet at the age of 8, he is now 10. It took nearly 2 years of very cautious diet restrictions to clear up his belly aches. The other thing is that he had a test for food sensitivities that came up positive for reactions to many other foods that we had to cut out of his diet. Once we did all that, and with time, he finally got to the point that his belly felt good. The other thing is that any time we strayed from that strict diet, he payed for it for a long time. It was not worth the small amount of cheating he did.

I had the same problems after being diagnosed last July. I was better for 2 weeks, then misery until last month. It took that long for my intestinal track t heal. I started really absorbing all my medicatons, and had to cut way back. Do you check any meds you take, lick envelopes, wear lipstick that may have gluten? I don't let my husband kiss me until he has brushed his teeth. I put my dogs on a gluten free diet since I touch them all the time and they lick me. Hope this helps. Hang in there-I know what you are going through! Debi

Look into candida as well. The fuzzy state of mind that you are explaining is very characterisitic of candida overgrowth. Candida is a yeast which can take over in your GI tract and lead to food sensitivities and many other symptoms. I have been battling with candida for about 5 years now and the symptoms I experience are food sensitivities (wheat, dairy, sugars)headaches, chills, fatigue, brain fog, muscle weakness, tenderness, etc. If this is the same case for you an acidophilus suppliment might help out as well. Sorry to break this to you but, If it is candida that you are suffering from as well the supplement will make you feel worse for the first while because as the candida is killed of it releases a toxin which leads to head aches. If you don't experience these die off headaches then candida is likely not your problem. The best product I have found out there is from customprobiotics.com it's very strong and the most reasonable price. Hope this helps, Jeremy

My son was following a gluten free diet for about 12 months with very little improvement in his blood count. We then noted that soy sauce (used in Chinese and Japanese food) contains wheat and, when we eliminated that (we used wheat-free soy sauce), he got better very quickly. Also, you might want to take enzymes for vegetables and grains (Beano or its equivalent), It helps with the gas and bloating. The other thing you might try is being more strict with dairy (butter, milk chocolate, baked goods, etc, should be avoided) and use lactase enzyme (such as Lactaid).
