Hungry feeling
posted by wheatfreenow 3 years ago

I was just told that I have CD, and it was almost a week ago, I have started my new gf diet as directed from my Dr. Before I never felt hungry, and it wasnt becasuse of the CD. I just live a very active lifestyle and always on the go, but I lately I have that "starving" feeling.. like I havent eaten all. Does anyone or did anyone feel this way when they started the gf lifestyle?just and FYI I am one of those people who eat when I am hungry, not to eat just to eat. SO, this makes no sence to me.. Please help!

I know exactly what you are talking about. The same thing happened to me when I went GF. I felt "starved" for the first week or two. I thought it was because I wasn't sure what I could and couldn't eat, so I wasn't eating much. I find it interesting that you feel the same way... Anyway I've been GF for over a year and the feeling goes away. I too consider myself a person to eat b/c I'm hungry and I'm also a frequent eater. So I'll eat small things thru-out the day. Nuts are great, yogurt, cheese, peanut butter, GF oatmeal, raw veggies, etc. For me its all about maintaining my blood sugar level so I don't dip too far and feel "starved." Hang in there. It gets easier.

I have read of doctors and scientists who report an addiction phenomenon specifically with foods that the body is intolerant of. Your body has been "functioning" for a long time on a perverted digestive system. This system has become so accustomed to the way it (mal)functions that it is recognizing the dietary change as a loss. I've read about this with respect to gluten intolerance, diabetes (with sugar) and carbohydrate addiction (when beginning a low carbohydrate or high fiber diet). Hang in there- it should only take about 2 weeks for your body to adjust to a more normal digestive function and for the feeling to go away. Good luck on your new lifestyle. It's difficult in the beginning, but before long you will lose the cravings and feel the difference in your energy levels and overall health.
