Dermatitis Herpetaformis

I am 72 years old and been dignosed with DH 2 years ago.
To date I have used Dapsone which controls the symptons. Now I have seen a gastroenterologist who wants me to stop the Dapsone and start a gluten free diet.I have tried it for 2 weeks already and no blister etc--but this whole diet has consumed my life -I can think of nothing else! I can see I will put on a lot of weight as everything is so full of caloties and so sweet---I am Diabetic also!--and am tired of eating like a rabbit with all these salads etc.--i do not like the pasta--so slimy.
I need help and encouragement--and bread that tastes like real bread, english muffins that are not like hockey pucks and bakery items that don't crumble by the time I get home!

I have one word on the bread -- Udi's. I have tried them all, and this is the best. Light, airy, makes great sandwiches & toast. They also make to die for cinnamon rolls & muffins that are not dry. Baked goods -- I bake my own. Store bought is usually too dry. Invest in a gluten free cookbook.

Hi!! Please don't be discouraged. It takes a little while to find the brands that are really good. On the pasta for instance, try Tinkyada (the brown rice version.) Boil for two minutes and let sit in the water (covered) for twenty minutes. The texture is lovely and it is really hard to tell it's not wheat. AS to the bread; If you like to cook you can make an exquissite bread using Almond flour. Go to honeyvillegrain.com and buy their white almond flour. There is a great recipe on their site. The bread is tender and delicious. I make it for myself and my diabetic husband. It is extrememly low carb and high food value. It will help your diabetes and keep you gluten free. Sweet potatoes, all kinds of yams are delighful and burn well for diabetics. They are a whole food, nutritious and delicious. There are great recipes sent from this site for wonderful meals. Don't give up and think its only salads. It is overwhelming in the beginning, but soon you will see that your entire health is upgraded and that there is plenty of tasty, beautiful natural food to eat!!

Be patient. The thing with GF pasta is that you can't overcook it. Kinniknick products are very good and Udi's makes bread and cinnamon rolls that taste homemade.

I SO feel your pain! It is total life-consuming, like you said. I will never forget the last time I ate "real" bread! (Dec 31st, 2010) Hope it gets better....
